Communities of Practice

Canvas Outcomes & SLO Assessment

Peer support for the implementation and use of Canvas Outcomes: a Community of Practice where members learn by doing, together.

This Community of Practice exists because implementing Canvas Outcomes is easier with company. Members meet monthly in working groups to get their hands dirty with the real work: setting up outcomes, building rubrics, making sense of the data, and bringing faculty along.

The format is discussion, not instruction. No one in the groups is positioned as the expert, and meetings are not run as workshops. Participants identify shared interests, work in small groups, learn by doing, and share what they find with everyone else. From an initial working group, the community has grown to more than 75 members from two-year and four-year institutions across the country.

Whether you are just getting started with Canvas Outcomes or have years of experience, you are invited. Members can join one or both work groups and receive invitations and materials from both.

Work groups

Each work group meets once per month on Mondays, 11am to 12pm Pacific.

2nd Monday of the month

Making Sense of the Data & Using and Creating Dashboards

Co-led by Dr. Jacqueline Randa, Dr. Yolanda Hardy, and Carlos Alvarez.

4th Monday of the month

Canvas Outcomes Set-up & Working with Faculty

Co-led by Dr. Bernice Houle and Sarah Chitwood.

A note on recordings. Meetings are not recorded, so members can speak freely about challenges on their campuses. When a participant shares a demonstration, that segment is recorded and posted for shared learning.
